Shield Diagnostics approached me to help them design their product. Through the process we moved away from their initial request for a one part device that included a phone case with their electronics embedded in it, to a modular attachment that would be mounted to any mobile phone case.
By working from the users point of view we were able to provide a device that would have an extended life cycle and would provide continued use long after the user had upgraded their phone.
1. Client
Shield Diagnostics had a great idea to provide diabetics with greater tracking of their blood glucose levels.
2. Challenge
The challenge was to develop a product that didn't have to be upgraded when the user changed phones and would meet Shield Diagnostics price point.
3. Solution
We came up with a backpack device that would fit on any phone case. This kept the cost of production down and increased their ability to penetrate the market.
