Big Bored Hunter
Big Bored Hunter was a Suissa Design project. I have a friend that owns an abattoir and processes wild game for hunters every year. After hundreds of conversations with hunters I discovered a pain point a majority of them had while enjoying their pastime. Almost all of them experienced boredom while waiting for their prey. I heard stories of hunters waiting days, sometimes week after week, for a suitable animal to present itself.
I spent 4 years gathering data and discussing iterations of the Big Bored Hunter offering with users. In the end, a combination of physical product and virtual platform presented itself as a viable solution.
Big Bored Hunter grew out of hundreds of discussions with hunters which led us to understand a pain point and a market opportunity.
We had to create a compelling product and service that would relieve the boredom, provide entertainment and provide a viable business case.
I developed a scope mounted camera with a 50mm lens and had a remote shutter button that allowed the user to take photos using their own scope to view find the target. The app added cross hairs to the photo showing the user exactly where they would have hit the target. The app allowed the user to share photos with friends immediately and to post them on the website where they could be scored based on how good of a shot they were by other users in a competition format.
